[edit]Dutch description: "Maak de interface voor onderschriften bij bestanden compacter" - Alexis Jazz ping plz 12:56, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! Added to MediaWiki:Gadget-Compact-Captions/nl (the comment at the top of the CSS does not really matter I think). Jean-Fred (talk) 13:04, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Indeed, that's what I meant. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:07, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
Edit request
[edit]@Jean-Frédéric: "oo-ui-textInputWidget textarea" needs to be changed to "oo-ui-textInputWidget input". Mediawiki appears to have changed this.
@Speravir: I noticed (not sure if this is new) that Special:Search is also affected by Compact Captions. Do you know how to make a CSS line apply only to elements that are in two classes? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:48, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- Well, I did not notice this myself before, but we need to be more specific which means we should prefix almost everything with
.filepage-mediainfo-entitytermsview
(only the ones inside of it, of course) like it is already done here:.filepage-mediainfo-entitytermsview h3
or another even more specific class name like.filepage-mediainfo-textinput
which is much better than.oo-ui-textInputWidget
. This said: The!important
strings are not necessary as it seems from local testing, and the used values create too narrow lines here in Firefox when not in edit mode, slightly more padding would look better. — Speravir – 00:52, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz and Jean-Frédéric: Oooh, video files, that are not images, do not have the MediaViewer box, and hence the compact CSS code causes interfering with the preceding lines. — Speravir – 23:15, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Jean-Frédéric and Majora: please copy the contents from User:Alexis Jazz/common.css to MediaWiki:Gadget-Compact-Captions.css. Issues with malformed search form are fixed. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:19, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
- Oh wait, Majora is no interface admin, doh.. Maybe Hedwig in Washington. (I'm not if Jean-Frédéric is reading this, so..) - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:27, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Speravir: this is only an issue with your code on Commons:File captions from what I understand. Compact Captions doesn't use large negative margins anymore. Only early versions (before [1] I think) in my userspace did. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:35, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
I think we should wait until this change goes live: gerrit change 484595 (see also phab:T213639). Afterwards adjusting is necessary anyway. By the way Gadget-Hide-Captions.css will be affected, too.
… And I am still favouring .filepage-mediainfo-textinput
which will be .wbmi-caption-textInput
. — Speravir – 00:31, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- A quick copy-paste now won't hurt either. This fix is needed anyway. I will update it again when the wbmi-stuff is live so I can test it. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 00:35, 22 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done @Alexis Jazz, Speravir, and Jean-Frédéric: Tested with FF without problems, should be good. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:43, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

- @Alexis Jazz: The changes are live now. Please remove also the
!important
strings. They are not necessary in my experience. — Speravir – 02:17, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
- @Hedwig in Washington: please import from User:Alexis Jazz/common.css. Updated for the wbmi-stuff. It works, there is a bit too much empty space when no captions have been entered yet, but I'm not even sure that's my fault. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 15:53, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
- Done Thanks for helping! Jean-Fred (talk) 17:52, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

@Hedwig in Washington and Jean-Frédéric: Who of you is faster, please take a look on my request in MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Hide-Captions.css (I mentioned this already above). — Speravir – 19:34, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
- Ha, Jean-Fred was faster than me and made the change while I wrote this here. — Speravir – 19:39, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
- But who will win the race to MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Collapse-Captions.js? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 21:41, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hiyaaaa, kapow, thumb.... There goes Jean-Frédéric. Done --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:14, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

[Resolved] Language selection
[edit]Hi, how do I choose which caption / language field to be displayed? Now somehow I have 11 being displayed, and I want to reduce it. Bennylin (yes?) 16:55, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Bennylin: On Wikidata, Babel languages (only extension syntax, not the legacy templates) are used if you have Babel boxes on your user page, I suppose the same goes here. (At least I get exactly Hungarian, English and German.) I have no idea why the default goes so wild with eleven languages, though. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:08, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- That's probably the reason (I have 11 babelbox in my meta user page), which is weird cross-wiki stuff. Thank you for the solution! Probably this tidbit of information could be included somewhere, if people want to add/remove the displayed caption fields. Bennylin (yes?) 13:21, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
