Description
English: The "Los Alamos Primer" (Los Alamos report LA-1). Created at Los Alamos National Laboratory during the early days of the Manhattan Project, the Primer was the first lectures on how to develop an atomic bomb delivered to all new arrivals to the secret wartime lab. Written by physicist Robert Serber, the Primer describes what was known in 1943 about what technical and scientific questions still remained to create a "practical military weapon" out of scientific principles discovered only four years before. It was declassified in the early 1960s, and an annotated version has been released by the University of California Press. This file is the original 1943 edition, which was at one time available online from Los Alamos' website, but was removed shortly after the September 11th attacks for "security reasons."
