Description
English: This is the French artist Alfred Roll’s portrait of the Danish painter Peder Severin Krøyer. The portrait illustrates the close ties between the Scandinavian and French artists in Paris in the 1880s. Apparently, it also had a particular purpose. In 1888, Krøyer painted a monumental group portrait of a committee working on an exhibition of French art in Copenhagen. He himself was a member of the group and therefore inserted his own face in the painting. Krøyer used Roll’s picture as a study for his self-portrait in the group painting.
