Description
I floden ligger Gallow-Tarna. Bokstäverna i stadskvarten markerar: a: tullhuset, c: den södra husraden med Kongsbaks hus, e: den portugisiska kyrkan, h: pagoder, i: moskeer, h: hyddor. I förgrunden fem fregatter.

A view of Tranquebar.
A view of the Danish colony of Tranquebar with the Dansborg fortress in south east India. The painting is executed after the restauration of the fortress by Eskil Andersen Kongsbakke in 1657-58. Kongsbakke later built a wall around the town in 1660 which is not visible in the painting. The letters in the town quarters represent a: custom warehouse, c: the southern part with the house of Kongsbakke, e: the Portuguese church, h: the pagoda, i: mosques. In the left and right corner of the canvas are figures dressed in various costumes.
The painting was taken as war booty by Carl Gustaf Wrangel during the war between Sweden and Denmark, maybe from Frederiksborg Castle in 1660.
